These plants have a low passion vine hopper host risk and are therefore suitable to plant alongside kiwifruit production. 

Austroderia Toetoe (Toetoe)

Tussock forming grass of up to 4m when in flower. Produces drooping, light golden-yellow flowerheads from September to January. Fast growing. Grows on a wide range of sites but preforms best in wet soils. Approx. height 2m x 3m.

A large, fast growing tussock sedge, attractive stream side and wetland plant with weeping yellowish green leaves. Large root system is great for preventing erosion, prefers wet soils, hardy. Mature height approx 1.5m.

Dacrycarpus Dacrydioides- Kahikatea

The tallest growing NZ native tree reaching up to 60m tall. Perfect for very wet conditions. Juvenile trees have fine drooping bronze, needle-like foliage whereas the adult form have darker green foliage. Provides a food source for native birds with unique red and blue berries (edible).

Dodonaea Viscosa (Ake Ake) Green

Fast growing, attractive small tree. Ornamental papery flower clusters in summer. Tolerates salt winds and dry conditions. Evergreen, height when mature approx. 7m. Long narrow light leaves in a lovely green colour, flaky bark.

Dodonaea Viscosa (Ake Ake) Purple

Open branching shrub with long narrow green leaves. The white flowers appear on 7-15cm spikes during summer. Grows quickly to about 2m tall, hardy landscape plant, pruned to maintain good shape.

Small tree up to 10m, can grow to 30m tall with showy white flowers. The trunk can reach 60cm or more with bark that is light brown and thicker than manuka with white wood.

Podocarpus Totara

Although a large conifer (30m high), it is sufficiently slow-growing to make it suitable for all but the smallest of gardens. It grows into a handsome specimen tree with a large rounded head. It is particularly hardy and will grow in any soil and condition.

Pseudopanax Crassifolius (Lancewood)

Commonly called Lancewood. Characterized by a distinct juvenile form with long, rigid, narrow, downward-pointing leaves which in the adult form give way to shorter, broader dark green leaves forming a round bushy head on the slender trunk. Juvenile form has a slender single stem reaching 4.5-6m, adult tree grows to around 15m tall.
