About Us
At Pongakawa Hilltop Nursery we are a family owned and operated business established by Esther and Katrina Williams in 2018 situated in rural Pongakawa, Bay of Plenty. We have always had a passion for plants with a large garden and being surrounded by native bush that inspired the business idea. Our venture started with a dream to provide good quality native plants bred tough and to make gardening affordable to the average homeowner.
We offer a wide range of strictly native species from groundcovers to grasses to shrubs and large tree species suitable for home gardening, farm, and riparian planting to suit all your needs in the Bay of Plenty region as well as offering the service to deliver plants to wider regions such as Waikato, Auckland, Taupo, Hawkes Bay.
Selling direct to the public no matter how small your gardening needs we are always happy to offer suggestions on suitable plants for your projects.
Good quality native plants bred tough
We believe in breeding strong healthy plants sourced locally in the Bay of Plenty area for NZ growing conditions that have been grown outdoors and faced the elements before they are put up for sale so we know they can sustain outdoor conditions in your natural environment.
We ensure all plants have roots appearing out the bottom of their pots before we let them go to public so we know you are going to get a good root structure which means you aren’t going to lose any soil or be set back when you go to plant them! We also ensure the plants are of a decent size in their pots to give you an instant impact.
Affordability
We endeavor to keep our costs down and therefore pass that on to the customer through low prices. This is achieved by:
- Recycling pots from our customers
- Producing all our own stock from seeds/cuttings where possible
- Avoiding unnecessary spraying and therefore promoting our plants to cope with problems naturally
- Operating from our property with none of the fancy shop facilities to keep our overheads low and our prices competitive.
- Having a ‘no frills’ policy, we haven’t put expenses into signage etc., we have instead only put in the costs we need to produce a quality plant for you at the lowest price possible!
